Department of Education convenes education information technology (edtech) to support 'teacher-led classroom revolution'

'Edutech Korea 2024' kicks off on Monday, September 23 at COEX

The Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) are hosting the “Edutech Korea 2014” from September 23 to 25 at COEX (Seoul) to promote Korea's digital-based education innovation policies and excellent education information technology (edtech) to both domestic and international audiences.

Started in 2006, this year's event will be held under the theme of 'The Future EdTech Powered by AI'. There will be a variety of exhibits and side events, including the EdTech Exhibition Hall (220 companies from 13 countries), policy promotion pavilions of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, a virtual classroom to present classroom and edtech demonstration cases, promotional pavilions of companies participating in the EdTech Soft Trap*, and a school-company meeting place.

At the Ministry of Education's Policy Promotion Center (Innovation Center), visitors can learn about the major policies of the “Teacher-Led Classroom Revolution” and experience prototypes of AI digital textbooks. The K-Digital Classroom will showcase digital-based classroom demonstrations, as well as presentations by teachers on their teaching practices and case studies of companies participating in the Edtech Soft Lab. Small classrooms throughout the edtech company pavilions will feature presentations by various companies under the themes of “Let's make your imagination come true” and “Edtech, show us the evidence!

The event is expected to be an opportunity for teachers to experience AI digital textbooks in advance of the first introduction of AI digital textbooks in 2025, and to discover various edtechs that can be used in the classroom. In addition, school administrators, representatives of leading schools for digital-based education innovation, and others will be able to explore edtech products for their schools in more depth.

“We will do our best to create a public education-centered edtech ecosystem where more edtech that supports public education innovation can be developed,” said Kim Young-gon, Vice Minister of Education. ”We will also focus on policies to secure the safety of edtech and raise the quality level.”
